Big Ben (UK – United Kingdom)

Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Houses of Parliament. It was the largest bell in the United Kingdom for 23 years with 13,7 metric tons. Big Ben is in fact the great hour bell but the name is associated to the whole clock tower. The bell itself was originally called the St. Stephen’s Tower, it was renamed in 2012 to Elizabeth’s Tower. The clock was designed by Edmund Beckett Denison.

Originally in coordination with the Royal Greenwich Observatory, it is used as the daily time by most of the British (By the British Broadcasting Corporation – BBC) since 1924.
